Remodel Log

Day 18 - Nov 01

The painters arrive at 7am, and I leave for the office.

Coming down the alley, I see the outdoor faucet has been used. The area is wet. I open the garage door and pull in. The garage floor is wet. Open the door to the house, and the chalky smell of drywall greats me. There is a large piece of plastic hanging in the kitchen to act as a barrier. You can taste the air. No cabinets. Looks like they mudded the wall, which makes sense. They lights are also installed and the boxes are closed up. The ceiling looks very nice.

Day 17 - Oct 31

The master bath's shower got screened in the morning (2 hours) in prep for some unknown next step. They also install the cement board.

Arrival of stove, dishwasher, and hood.

Passed the building inspection now that the lights are boxed.

The kitchen got prepped for the cabinets (they are scheduled for installing tomorrow). The crew still has work to do in the kitchen in front of the cabinets, so they've asked to start at 7am.

Day 16 - Oct 30

They box the lights because this is a rated building. As a multi-unit dwelling, there are additional anti-fire requirements.

The MB Vanity lights are at the store. I pick them up. When I return home, the electricity is out for the whole block.

Day 15 - Oct 29

I come home and the roughed in light are removed. They have been replaced by large 12"x24" cutouts in the ceiling. Why?

Day 12 - Oct 26

Shower valve is replace with one that has stops.

Day 11 - Oct 25

I stay home today for another delivery - the vanity and shower panel.

Kitchen floor gets cement boarded.

They tar the shower. Smoke fills the place. Plumbing inspector wants stops on the show valve. I check HD, Lowes, and OSH. None carry such a valve. Then I try Pyramid. They are $30/piece. They also have the PF valve with stops for $59. I get it, bring it home.

Day 8 - Oct 22

The kitchen now has recessed lights roughed in. The building inspector is scheduled for today.

Day 1 - Demo

They remove the applicances.I now have the patio kitchen. They rip out the cabinets. After two hours, the kitchen looks much bigger.

Day 15

Today sees the arrival of the stove, dishwasher, and hood.
